Get to know me: Alex Caulfield

Hi. Good to have you here.

I’m Alex Caulfield, a technology creator based in Chepstow, South Wales. I make the videos on Tech It Easy and 5 by Alex, and I’m the founder of Studio Wye.

Tech is the thing that brings us together here, but I don’t want this to feel like a wall of product specifications. I’m interested in what something is like to use, the details you notice after the unboxing, and whether it actually earns a place in your day.

If you’ve come over from YouTube, welcome. And if you’ve found me here first, there are plenty of videos to get stuck into.

Before the videos.

I started with graphic design, photography and media at college, then studied 3D Game Art Design. Before YouTube became my full-time job, I spent almost ten years in architectural visualisation.

That included four years at a leading visualisation studio, working on projects including Battersea Power Station. I then moved into luxury interior design, followed by a younger agency where I worked more closely with graphic design and marketing teams.

It was a lot of time spent thinking about light, materials and composition. That background still shapes how I film today: how a product catches the light, what belongs in the frame, and which details help explain what you’re looking at. I enjoy making something look good, but the shot needs to tell you something too.

Tech It Easy came first.

Tech It Easy began alongside the day job. As the channel grew, I was able to make the move to creating full-time. It brought together the visual work I’d spent years learning and the technology I was already interested in.

Tech It Easy is where I take a longer look at phones, wearables and other everyday tech. 5 by Alex is for when you want the useful details in five minutes or less. Same Alex, a different pace.

Studio Wye is the home for the wider creative work, including product films and original 3D artwork. You’ll see a little of that in the wallpapers here.

Coffee, cats, and a bit more tech.

Away from the videos, I’m a coffee person and share my home with two ragdoll cats. And yes, I still get excited on unboxing day.

I’d like this site to give us a little more room than a video description does: somewhere to share an article, catch up on the latest upload, or get to know the person on the other side of the camera.
